The Shipping Process
The certification of plants bound for another state or country is usually a serious and complicated procedure. It calls for 100% compliance with the regulations of that specific region’s Agriculture Department. The majority of the nursery industry currently sell within their locale, preferring to avoid the routine inspections and stringent testing required by interstate and foreign certification processes.
However, Tornello Nurseries have been shipping live plants internationally (and, of course, domestically) for twenty years. In fact, we were instrumental in re-working the specimen tree certification process for shipments to California, and we supply bamboo to numerous landscape and interiorscape projects in that state; three are featured on this Website.
Tornello Nurseries bamboo is flourishing around the globe in interiorscapes and atria, as well as in zoological and botanical gardens.
Transporting live bamboo is both art and science; at Tornello, the packing process is far lengthier and more detailed than that of most nurseries. Plants are perishable, and we take every precaution to ensure their safe, intact arrival at the project site. We conduct rigorous testing of soils, both incoming and outgoing, in order to maintain our hard-won countrywide and international certifications.
Tornello Nurseries are committed to detailed employee training. It is, and has always been, our policy to promote from within; our crew members are therefore exceptionally knowledgable and experienced.
